Ice Cream Sandwich for Motorola XOOM 3G/4G is currently on hold

Although we reported that Verizon might start the Android 4.0 ICS rollout for Motorola XOOM 3G/4G on April 23, it looks like something or someone stopped this from happening.

One week ago a Reddit user published a Verizon internal document which mentioned that the carrier is currently testing Ice Cream Sandwich for Motorola 3G/4G and plans to release it on April 23.

Obviously that didn’t happened, and we’re not sure why. However, the same document listed the HTC Rezound as eligible for an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for May 9.

Even though we’re inclined to believe that this won’t happen either, it looks like HTC Rezound owner might be in for a nice surprise.

There’s a new document leaked online by another Reddit user that goes by the name for DroidTosser. He managed to grab a screenshot of Verizon’s update schedule for almost all devices from the carrier’s portfolio, and was kind enough to share this information.

According to this document, HTC Rezound is still expected to receive the long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on May 9. The update will be pushed OTA (over the air), probably in stages.

There is good news for Motorola DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX owners as well. Verizon’s upgrading roadmap mentions that these two smartphones will be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich updates on May 21.

Prior to releasing the updates, HTC Rezound and Motorola DROID RAZR/RAZR MAXX are expected to finish their soak tests on May 7 and May 17, respectively.

The bad news, as we mentioned earlier, is that for whatever reasons Verizon decided that Android 4.0 ICS testing for Motorola XOOM 3G/4G must be put on hold.

Unfortunately, we can’t be sure if Verizon will be able to release these updates as scheduled, so we suggest those who are anxiously waiting to upgrade their devices to wait for the official announcements. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
