Internet technology company VirnetX Holding Corporation has filed a motion with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas adding new claims to its patent infringement lawsuit against Apple Inc.

VirnetX claims that some of Apple’s newly released products contain redesigned VPN On Demand and Per App VPN features which infringe VirnetX’s inventions.

The firm has an ongoing suit with similar claims which targets the iPhone 5, iPod Touch 5th Generation, iPad 4th Generation, iPad mini, and some Macintosh models.

Now, VirnetX is adding new products to the suit, including the latest iPhones and iPads, as well as the newest Macs. The VirnetX press release appears to be mistaking iPad mini Retina with “iPod Touch with Retina Display.”

The announcement states that “The purpose of VirnetX’s unopposed motion to supplement its infringement contentions is to further include iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina Display, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPod Touch with Retina Display and latest Mac computers into the current litigation.”

Kendall Larsen, VirnetX CEO and president, says, “We contend that Apple continues to use our inventions in the majority of its products.”

“We are confident that we will prevail in proving that Apple products, including the new products added to the suit, infringe on our inventions.”

VirnetX has been cited as a patent troll on numerous occasions, though it remains unclear whether or not Apple is actually infringing its patents.

According to the VirnetX web site, it owns “patented technology for secure communications including 4G LTE security.”

The company has a patent portfolio totaling around 80 U.S. and International patents with over 100 pending applications.

Apple has not responded to these allegations publicly, nor is it expected to do so.
