With all the newer and better laptops coming out, Wortmann AG figured it would, instead, see what it would take to make a truly cheap notebook without crossing over into netbook territory.

Basically, when it comes to sub-$500 laptops, end-users nowadays think about those entry-level machine known as netbooks.

Netbooks are usually no larger than 10.1 inches in screen size and have low-end specifications, which usually implies the Intel Pine trail platform and the bare minimum in terms of graphics, though web connectivity is not actually sacrificed.

Wortmann AG, however, made a 15.6-inch notebook that is more or less just as cheap as netbooks, if not cheaper than some of them.

The newcomer goes by the name of Terra Mobile 1524 and has a display size of 15.6 inches, plus the hardware to go with it.

It has a configuration built around the Intel T3300 central processing unit, whose core frequency is of 2.0 GHz.

Said CPU is paired with the Intel GMA (graphics media accelerator) X4500 integrated graphics and should be able to put the display to good use.

Speaking of the screen, it has a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, which should let HD media play without loss in image quality.

There is also a hard disk drive with a capacity of 250 GB, plus a DVD writer and the full range of connectivity and I/O options.

Not only is 10/100 LAN available, but Wortmann AG also threw in a 1.3 megapixel webcam, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and a memory card reader, plus an Express Card slot.

Finally, all of the hardware is kept operational by a 6-cell battery and is pre-loaded with the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit operating system.

As for pricing, consumers may be intrigued by knowing that it will take just about 399 Euro for their order to be delivered.
