While LaCie is best-known for manufacturing all sorts of interesting data storage solutions, including a couple of ultra-rugged ones, it would seem that the company is considering a more serious branch-out into the world of accessories as well, since they've just recently released the Tank, a protective carrying case designed to keep your external HDDs and other gadgets safe at all times.

According to LaCie, the Tank carrying case has been designed by Neil Poulton and manufactured in Italy to the highest US military standards, from a combination of polypropylene and rubber materials.

In fact, it seems that the LaCie Tank will manage to protect the devices stored within against serious drops, shocks, dust, and rain (IP-63-certified), and can even be used in order to send sensitive products via mail or courier.

And speaking of “sensitive products,” it's important to mention that the LaCie tank has been designed in order to safely accommodate 2.5" hard drives, digital cameras, and portable gaming systems like the Nintendo DS lite, the only limitation being imposed by the maximum supported dimensions, namely 26 x 106 x 125 mm / 1 x 4.2 x 6 in.

Moreover, in order to adapt itself to the specific requirements of the products being stored within, the Tank sports a customizable foam interior that lets users remove or add padding so that the cargo is perfectly protected at all times.

Additionally, carrying the LaCie Tank around shouldn't prove to be much of a challenge, given the fact that this thing measures 41 x 121 x 186 mm / 1.6 x 4.8 x 7.3 in. and weighs 280g / 9 oz.

For the time being, it would seem that the LaCie Tank will only be available in the UK, where it will sell for somewhere in the vicinity of 20 pounds sterling (32 US dollars), which is not exactly what we'd call an exaggerated price, especially taking into account the enhanced level of protection it delivers for the device stored within.
