Canonical announced yesterday, June 12th, in a security notice, that a new Linux kernel update for its Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) operating system is now available, fixing one security vulnerability discovered in the Linux kernel packages by Schacher Raindel.

The kernel vulnerability, affecting the 2.6.32 kernel packages, found in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx), is a flaw in the Linux kernel's memory handling when hugetlb is enabled, which could lead to a denial of service or allow an unprivileged local attacker to gain higher privileges.

More details about the vulnerability can be found here, as it affects other Linux operating systems as well.

The security flaw can be fixed if you upgrade your system(s) to the linux-image-2.6.32-41 (2.6.32-41.90) package(s). To apply the update, run the Update Manager application or follow these instructions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Upgrades.

Don't forget to reboot your computer after the upgrade!
