Various new vulnerabilities were found in the Linux kernel packages, this time affecting the Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) and Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) operating systems.

The following three Linux kernel vulnerabilities affect the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) operating system: CVE-2011-4077, CVE-2011-4132, and CVE-2011-4330.

The following five Linux kernel vulnerabilities affect the Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) operating system: CVE-2011-4077, CVE-2011-4081, CVE-2011-4132, CVE-2011-4326, and CVE-2011-4330.

As usual, you can click on each one to see how it affects your system, or go here and here for in-depth descriptions. The security flaws can be fixed if you upgrade your system(s) to the linux-image-2.6.24-30 (2.6.24-30.97) package(s) for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and the linux-image-2.6.35-31 (2.6.35-31.63) package(s) for Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat).

Don't forget to reboot your computer after the upgrade!

ATTENTION: Due to an unavoidable ABI change, the kernel packages have a new version number, which will force you to reinstall and recompile all third-party kernel modules you might have installed. Moreover, if you use the linux-restricted-modules package, you have to update it as well to get modules which work with the new Linux kernel version.
