A law enforcement officer from New Jersey has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter and is being held on a $1 million bail (€757,862) after he shot and killed a man in a road rage dispute, CNN reports.

Joseph Walker, the sworn officer who was off duty at the time, got into an argument with a motorist off of Maryland’s Route 3, who had gotten out of his car to confront him.

CNN notes that the passenger of the other car, driven by Joseph Harvey Jr., the victim, had also stepped out of the vehicle and was approaching Walker’s.

“Walker, 40, allegedly fired a .45 caliber Glock at Harvey and struck him. Harvey, 36, died of his wounds Saturday night at Baltimore Washington Medical Center,” CNN informs.

Walker’s wife and three children were in the car at the time of the shooting.
