It seems that there's somewhat of a sudden spike in the popularity of audio systems packing Apple's AirPlay technology, the latest we've come across belonging to JBL and having quite a spectacular exterior design.

The device in question is the JBL On Air Wireless AirPlay speaker dock, that's not only capable of docking a variety of iOS devices (whether we're talking about the iPhone, iPod touch or even the iPad), but also incorporates Apple's AirPlay tech, meaning that it can easily stream audio from any device with access to the iTunes 10.1 software application via the home wireless network.

Before moving to the actual features the JBL audio system has in store, we can't help but notice this thing's very unusual, curvy and might we add, futuristic design, that's sure to garner some attention wherever it might be placed.

Beside the visual effect, this design also has a practical one, the HALO (horizontal acoustic level optimization) design enabling the system to deliver enhanced audio quality, on a broader area.

Apart from the features we've mentioned thus far, the audio system from JBL also packs a full color screen for displaying album art and song/artist information from iTunes 10, as well as a clock with dual alarms and a Digital FM radio with RDS and 10 station presets, plus a USB port for carrying out firmware updates.

It's also important to mention that the audio system offers playback transport control (play/pause, skip forward/backward), granting users a higher level of control over the music being played.

According to JBL, their brand-new JBL On Air Wireless AirPlay speaker dock will become available at some point this spring, but, unfortunately, no specific information regarding its pricing has been provided thus far.

However, given its overall features and attractive design, we'd dare to say that you shouldn't expect this thing to come cheap at all, because that won't probably be the case.
