Non-English scripts proposed

Non-English characters might be introduced soon in the Internet domains as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers announced multiple meetings to discuss the proposal. As AP reported, the conferences will take place in San Juan, being the first time when the organization plans to insert foreign strings into the domain names. According to the same source - Paul Tworney, ICANN's chief executive - it's quite difficult to proceed to this implementation of non-English characters, because the organization needs a report concerning the policy matters.

Imagine that the foreign strings might have an important impact over the websites' traffic because some of the international users might avoid certain countries from the lack of certain characters. Think at China, Japan or Korea, some nations that have their own characters. A user from a different country, let's say Romania would not be able to type an address since it doesn't have the local language installed on his computer.

However, a simple solution would be to assign an international domain for a certain website in order to allow all the visitors to connect to the page even without typing the regional characters.

The decision of implementing non-English characters will surely expand the Internet, giving the domain owners the possibility to manage and organize the names on locations with ease.

Some time ago, it was rumored that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Number would finally adopt the .xxx domain for pornographic domains although the first proposal was issued in 2001. This year, the separated domain was again promoted but the organization rejected it again. Many companies that are based on the adult material sustained that their businesses would be almost destroyed if they're forced to move to another domain as the users would not be able to access their favorite website, resulting in a loss of traffic.
