Microsoft adds even more icons in the recently leaked build

It’s not a secret that the icon pack that Microsoft introduced in Windows 10 build 9926 was heavily criticized by users across the world, and in order to tweak the operating system so that it better tackles customer feedback, the software giant has recently rolled out updated icons that make the desktop feel more modern and fresh.

And now Microsoft can’t seem to stop, as the recently leaked build 10147 that reached the web a few hours ago comes with even more updated icons that are available in the Start menu.

Previously, Microsoft focused exclusively on the desktop icons, but with this new release, its attention is turned to the Start menu icons and live tiles.

New File Explorer icon

As Microsoft watcher Richard Hay writes, build 10147 includes updated File Explorer and All apps icons, as well as several changes to the icons used for Modern apps.

For example, the Videos app, which has been renamed to Movies & TV, comes with a fresh icon that better expresses the purpose of the app. Renaming Videos to Movies just makes sense because, in Windows 10, the Store will provide access to movies and TV shows, so this app would allow you to watch content that you previously purchased from the store.

There’s also a new icon for the Mail app, but also for Maps, so Microsoft spent a little bit more time to improve the look of more Modern app. This trend is expected to continue in the coming builds, as we approach the debut of the final version of Windows 10.

Another change that’s included in this build allows users to simply drag live tiles from the Start menu to the desktop to create shortcuts and launch them faster. This way, the icons that you see in the Start menu will be used on the desktop too, hence the increased interest in making them look better.

As usual, user feedback is a decisive factor for Windows 10, so in case you don’t like the new icons, just make yourself heard and Microsoft could replace them before the final version launches.
