Japanese company Sony has just announced the upcoming availability of a new Android-based smartphone, the Xperia sola. Previously rumored as Sony Xperia Pepper, the smartphone is expected to arrive on the market next month.

Obviously, this won’t be the last Android device launched by Sony this year. This is way the first rumors on the next products manufactured by the Japanese company have just started to surface.

The folks over at Blog of Mobile have just stumbled upon some benchmark results of an unheard of Sony device. A certain Sony V150 has been benchmarked with NenaMark1 and the results seem quite impressive.

Apparently, the device scored a total of 59.70 points which is way above Asus Transformer Prime’s standard score. The latter is currently one of the most powerful Android-based tablets available on the market.

Some of the device’s specs have been detailed as well, but these might be subject to change. It looks like this Sony V150 will be shipped with a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz and a HD WXGA (1280 x 752 pixels) resolution touchscreen display.

Software-wise, the device is powered by Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Other details have yet to be unveiled, but rumor has it that the V150 might be in fact Sony Tablet P’s successor.

While this is an exciting device, it’s still too early to make any assumptions based only on a single benchmark. However, with Sony recently dropping Tablet P’s prices, rumor has it that the company is in fact trying to make room for a new device.

It remains to be seen if the device meant to replace Sony Tablet P will be the recently surfaced V150 or a completely new device that has yet to emerge. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
