More interesting locations have been added to Street View

Google constantly adds new or updated imagery to Street View. Some of the images from the places it's already visited may be several years old now. Granted, cities don't really change that fast, but newer images are a bonus. At the same time, Google is working on adding more locations, not just streets, but everything else which can be included to the product.

University campuses are a great example, they're generally large, public or semi-public spaces, but which don't normally get visited by a Street View car.

At the same time, plenty of students would find it useful to see the campuses they're moving to or have just arrived in and try to understand how everything fits. The ability to show their parents where they're living now is also very handy.

Students in several places around the world should be glad to hear that Google has added imagery for several new universities to Google Street View.

"Whether you’re a current student trying to familiarize yourself with campus, an applicant assessing your options or an alumnus feeling nostalgic, the Street View feature in Google Maps can be your tour guide without the backward walking," Chris Fiock, program manager for Street View, wrote.

"We recently added imagery of more university campuses to the existing special collections already available via Street View through our Partner Program," he announced.

Google has highlighted some of the more interesting places that have been added. The historic Waseda University in Tokyo was founded in 1882 and is one of the country's top schools. You can now visit it in Street View.

The University of Glasgow is another addition, one of the oldest in the world having been founded in 1451. Finally, the famed Stanford University in the US can also be visited in the US. Situated at the heart of Silicon Valley, it is one of the engines that fuels it. Both Sergey Brin and Larry Page attended Stanford.
