Sony promised fans a different movie, but this doesn't look like it

One of the arguments Sony made when announcing plans to reboot the “Spider-Man” franchise was that it would be a different story, set many years before the events in the first three films. New photos don't show said difference.

Starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Emma Stone as his love interest Gwen Stacy (not Mary Jane), the film will tell the same general story, one of self-discovery, empowerment and growing up.

The newly released photos seem to confirm that: Peter is just as angsty as the first Peter, but better looking. Gwen has the same innocent air as Mary Jane, but the hair color is different.

Nevertheless, that's not to say the photos don't look good or that the film will be really awful because it will be a retelling of previous installments.

Quite on the contrary: “The Amazing Spider-Man” could turn out to be the biggest 3D hit of 2012. Fans must surely hope that.
