The UK will be getting official Hello Kitty mobile phones this summer, as Times Online reports that Comment Retail Service partnered with Sanrio, the company that created the famous (among little girls) Hello Kitty character, in order to distribute the new handsets.

Although the pink kitty is worshiped mainly by kids, the future phones will apparently be targeted towards adults. Firstly because their features and price won't be for children and, secondly, because the kids who are usually fans of the cute kitten are around 10 years old and they're not "ready" to own a cell phone.

For the moment, there are no clear details about the new Hello Kitty handsets, so we can't say how they look. Moreover, it's not sure for the moment who will be manufacturing them, but since Sanrio is based in Japan, there are high chances for the handsets to come with some advanced Japanese technology inside. Which is good.

A Hello Kitty mobile phone is not something new, as many such devices were produced during the years, with or without the Sanrio's consent. For example, one of the latest Hello Kitty handsets comes

from China and it features, besides Hello Kitty related content, a flower pattern on its back and around its screen, a 1.8 inch display with 176 x 220 pixels and 260K colors, Video and Music players, FM radio and microSD card support - all in a blue case that weighs 95 grams. We don't think this phone is made with the consent of Sanrio, hence, in a way, it's an "illegal" Hello Kitty mobile.

The official one, which will be released by Comment Retail Service, will apparently be available starting July (in the UK at least), so all those grown-up Hello Kitty fans have two more months to wait. We hope it's worth it.
