It appears that we will soon be able to benefit from the enhanced features brought by a bunch of new HD DVD recordable write-once media developed by Memorex. The media is said to offer three times the capacity of a common DVD disc and also faster digital transfer speeds, according to Hardware Zone. "Memorex has always been proud to bring the full spectrum of optical recording formats to consumers," said Ron Zinke, president, Consumer Division, for Imation Corp. "The availability of Memorex HD DVD media gives consumers a choice in recordable formats as they enter this new, high-definition world." This would mean that the images delivered by the TV set, for example, will be brighter and clearer. More precisely, the new discs are compatible with HD DVD compliant recorders and players, being able to record up to 15 GB of digital content, 75 minutes of HD-quality video, and about 7 hours of standard DVD-quality video. "Memorex is a portfolio brand of Imation Corp, which boasts the world's only modular manufacturing facility for the production of both HD DVD and rival format Blu-ray discs. Memorex is a contributing member of the DVD Forum, which supports the HD DVD format, as well as the Blu-ray Disc Association, which supports the Blu-ray format. In June, Memorex announced retail availability of its Blu-ray recordable (BD-R) and rewritable (BD-RE) media," comments Hardware Zone. The Memorex HD DVD-R media are already available in separate packages at a suggested retail price of $19.
