Activision has just confirmed that new iterations in its Guitar Hero, Spider-man, X-Men and Transformers franchises will appear in 2011, in order to capitalize on the popularity of these series.
Activision is currently the biggest game publisher in the world, owning a huge amount of popular franchises, headlined by Call of Duty and other best selling series.
During a recent investors call, the company CEO, Eric Hirshberg, revealed that new iterations in popular franchises including Guitar Hero and other such series, will be revealed during 2011.
"In addition to Call of Duty in 2011 we will have new release from our other proven franchises including the Hero brand, Spider-Man, X-Men and Transformers, which will be supported by what is expected to be another major blockbuster movie from Michael Bay."
He later added: "Today, we're also announcing that we're in deep development on an exciting new kid's property that will feature innovative technology and has the potential to open up a whole new product segment for us. We look forward to revealing more that in the next call."
Activision published recently new titles in all of these franchises, with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock,
Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Transformers: War for Cybertron.
All of these games sold pretty well, thanks to an improved quality over previous games in their own series, and thanks to the devoted fan base.
As for the new kid's property, expect Activision to take advantage of the new peripherals that arrive on the consoles, including PlayStation 3's PlayStation Move, Xbox 360's Kinect and even Nintendo Wii's Wii Motion Plus, as seen in the new
Wii Remote Plus controller.
Expect more details about Activision's future plans around the Winter holiday season, as the company is now focused on launching its biggest product of the year,
Call of Duty: Black Ops, tomorrow, November 9, for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and DS.
