Rugged and semi-rugged solutions designed to withstand the most atypical working conditions are gaining more and more traction with business customers lately. Observing this trend, international PC maker GammaTech has launched its latest 15.6-inch semi-rugged notebook solution, called the Durabook S15H.

The S15H comes equipped with a full HD LED 15.6-inch (translated to 1920 x 1080 resolution) works in concert with Intel’s integrated graphics controller and NVIDIA Optimus technology used for its capabilities of delivering competent image details and reproduction.

VP of Marketing GammaTech, Paul Kim said "The S15H was designed to fill the need for a 15-inch monitor in the marketplace."

"Many companies and organizations have legacy software programs that were designed for 15-inch monitors with no way to run them. The S15H provides a solution to this problem, while eliminating the need and expense of modifying how legacy system display."

The business-oriented notebook bundles in its core a Haswell CPU which is supposed to provide increased performance and a longer life-span. The laptop also accommodates two dual-channel DDR III SODIMM slots (for 2, 4, 8 or 16GB of memory) and a DVD super-multi-drive.

The Durabook makes use of USB 3.0 and the “SuperSpeed” transfer mode which will allow users to transfer data with up to 5Gbit/sec, which is said to be 10 times faster than what USB 2.0 would be able to provide.

As the name aptly suggest, the Durabook will not be easily damaged. The notebook has a magnesium alloy case which will aptly protect against the environment and possible mishaps.

GammaTech says the product has been through the Military Standard 810G test, which evaluates drop and shock resistance, and all its parts (keyboard, buttons and indicators) proved to be spill resistant.

Furthermore, the HDD cable is even capable of absorbing shock from drops, thus protecting the important data. Other rugged feats include dual-protection smart battery circuitry (prevents damage in case of overheating or voltage surges) and a disk-tray lock preventing users from unintentionally ejecting the tray in case of drop or vibration.

Other specifications include 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet, Intel Mini-Express wireless LAN network connection, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, WWAN 3G module as well as a Kensington lock connector.

The GammaTech DuraBook will be made available somewhere in Q1 2014, but price is not known at the moment.
