Gaming peripherals don't just offer the best performance, they also have to look really cool, awesome, great or any synonym thereof. Tesoro knows this, so it made sure to design the Excalibur with lots of cool features, like mechanical switches and an LED backlight.

The majority of keyboards on the market use a rubber or silicone membrane to provide actuation to the keys, meaning that it's thanks to a sheet of rubber that the buttons pop back up after you press them.

Mechanical switches, however, are different. Each key gets one of its own, completely independent from all others. Mechanical switches provide better tactile feedback and are guaranteed to last a lot longer.

Which is quite important, especially for the WASD keys, SHIFT, CTRL and the arrows, which are used most often during a gameplay session.

Speaking of which, some peripherals still choke on their own signal when you press more than a few keys at the same time. That can cause command mix-ups, assuming the peripheral doesn't completely sputter.

To avoid that, the new keyboard from Tesoro (full name Tesoro Excalibur LED backlit mechanical keyboard by the way) has 6 N-Key Rollover. The 1000 Hz polling rate also helps ensure key strokes aren't missed.

So yes, you will be able to pull off those awesome combos even when you're playing multiplayer on the same keyboard.

That said, the new peripheral has 512 kB of onboard memory that can store macros natively, without any need for software. In addition to making it easier to use the keyboard, it also means that you can take it along to a LAN party and play as if you'd been customizing the PC you sit at your whole life.

5 sets of profiles, 300 macro keys and 2000 macro key presses per profile can be held together at any given time.

Moving on, there's LED backlighting beneath the keys, obviously. Otherwise, the name of the newcomer wouldn't be what it is. It's not a simple LED though, but one with four levels of dimming and five levels of on-key LED illumination.

Meaning that keys can be individually highlighted, like having the WASD buttons visible at night, but not the others. It makes games a lot more atmospheric, so to speak. All the while, an anti-slip rubberized foot design will keep the product stable on your desktop.

Sales of the Tesoro Excalibur LED backlit mechanical keyboard will start in the middle of September for $89.00 / €67.
