Rockstar has just released new screens from their upcoming third-person shooter GTA IV, showing off some razor sharp visuals, something that the GTA series really needed to keep fans crazy about. No word on the platform they've been shot on though. What are we looking at here:
Xbox 360 or PS3?
At the bottom of the article, you have 4 carefully selected screenshots from the some 17 released
this morning. Unfortunately we couldn't get our hands on the lot, but we hope we will shortly. But again, what exactly are we seeing here? The images you see below give absolutely no hint to what platform they've been shot on.
Earlier this month, Rockstar's Creative VP Dan Houser told the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, that although the
Xbox 360 and
PS3 have just about the same processing power, certain features are better with the PS3, while others are better with the 360. Thus technical limitations proved to be a hard nut to crack for the developer:
"To be honest with you we haven't solved all those riddles yet. [...] both have enormous challenges ... [and] their own particular pleasures and pains," 1Up posted.
Rockstar's Creative VP didn't quite clear the blur away with his statement, but more, let fans know that one of the installments could miss some features. Although the screens below can't show in any way whether anything is "missing from the picture," or not (I hope I speak for everyone here), the complex wiring hanging from poles and bridges, for example, is most likely to be found on both versions. I can only imagine how Liberty City will look in motion (screenshot no.1).
Controls may be a little different between the two versions, but other than that I can't see a problem with the game's installment on both consoles. There was also talk of the PS3's lacking disk space (the 20GB SKU). Who knows, maybe it's true, but is disk space really going to be a problem? So don't keep all of your demos and other crap on the drive, if you're a fan. There you go, problem solved.
