It would appear that it is only a matter of time until furniture as we know it becomes obsolete. Thus, designer Justin Floyd claims to have created a new furniture material that, as surprising as this may sound, is made from wool.

The material in question is dubbed Solidwool, and its maker claims that it is fairly durable. According to Justin Floyd, it can be used not only to make chairs such as the one pictured above, but also countertops and baths. Inhabitat informs that, in order to obtain Solidwool, the designer mixes wool taken from Herwick sheep with several bioresins of a low toxicity. The resulting material is said to behave much like an organic fiberglass, and to be easy to manipulate in order to make it take various shapes.

Justin Floyd, whose hometown is Buckfastleigh in England, reportedly worked on Solidwool in the kitchen of his own home, and carried out a series of experiments before determining the right formula for the furniture material he was looking to obtain.

Interestingly enough, the designer hopes that, sometime in the future, Solidwool will not only be used to make furniture, but will also serve as a more sustainable alternative to fiberglass and other materials used to make structural parts.
