The big plans of an anonymous producer

What's that on the mobile industry sky? Is it a plane? Is it a bird? Is it Superman? No, no, no. It's the zzzPhone. Yeah, you heard (read) well: the zzzPhone, a new handset that comes with the intention to revolutionize the mobile industry, by allowing us to customize every feature of it, like we would customize a car or a PC by choosing only the components that we really want.

In other words, you can buy a zzzPhone for a starting price of $149, and if you want more features you also have to pay more. For example, if you want a 7 Megapixel camera in the handset you must add $95, if you want stereo speakers you must add $18, built-in GPS will cost you an extra $119, and if you want the phone to be waterproof you only have to add 7 bucks. The list with optional features goes on, including mobile TV, Bluetooth, bigger memory (up to 4GB), any color you like and so on, all for extra cash, of course.

According to the zzzPhone website, the handset is manufactured by an American company in China and it's a tri-band GSM device that comes unlocked and can work with any mobile carrier, all over the globe, except "some European carriers". Those European carriers are not mentioned, nor is the reason why the phone can't work on their networks. However, the zzzPhone aims high, as its producer says it can offer better features than Apple's iPhone or Nokia's N95, for a lower price. Furthermore, the zzzPhone website states that all the components included in the customizable handset come from the same suppliers that deliver components to Nokia, Samsung or Palm.

The standard zzzPhone doesn't look bad at all and measures 106 x 48 x 18 millimeters at a weight of 110 grams. It's said to pack a 3.0 inch touchscreen display, a 3 Megapixel camera, MP3 and MP4 software, Windows Mobile 6 and a 1800 mAh battery.

Well, on paper everything looks attractive, but the real thing can be a bit different, as we don't know the final quality of such a customized phone. And since no one bought one until now, or at least there's nothing about this on the Web, I'm a bit reluctant in giving zzzPhone the "revolutionary phone" title.
