Turn 10 Studios has just released a brand new update for last year’s Forza Motorsport 4 racing game, fixing a major issue relating to crashes and lag during multiplayer lobbies, while raising the level cap from the regular 150 to a massive 999.

Forza Motorsport 4 delivered a huge variety of content for racing game fans on the Xbox 360 through lots of great tracks, plenty of impressive cars and all sorts of downloadable content.

In order to keep the game running as smooth as possible, the studio has just released a brand new update which brings plenty of improvements for the racing title.

First and foremost, according to Turn 10’s Creative Director Dan Greenawalt, is the elimination of a major bug that affected the lobbies of multiplayer races.

"Essentially what was happening was a slow memory leak when using liveried cars and jumping between lobbies," he explained.

"The leak was only happening when players driving liveried cars would join or leave lobbies at precisely the right moment during the loading of a race. The leak occurred on all consoles even if the player didn't have a custom livery, but it was exceedingly small. As the leak got worse over the course of a player's session, it would cause the console to crash."

This problem resulted in longer loading times for everyone in the lobby and, as some players quit and joined other races, the issue would spread to others.

It was hard finding a solution to the issue, but Greenawalt says that, after the update, Turn 10 expects "lobby crashes to dramatically reduce, resulting in the kind of online experience Forza Motorsport fans have come to expect from the game."

Besides the bug, Forza 4’s update also increases the level cap from the standard 150 to 999, thereby allowing dedicated players to continue increasing their ranks.

In order to help their efforts, 38 cars have also seen their performance figures increase, in order to fuel the competition between skilled racers.

Last but not least, thanks to a fix for the "interaction between the title’s save game volume and the Xbox file system, players will see noticeably quicker UI navigation when in their Forza Motorsport 4 garages or in other car select menus."

The update for Forza Motorsport 4 will be automatically downloaded the next time you start up the game and have your Xbox 360 connected to the web.
