German high-end loudspeaker manufacturer Canton has announced the release of its latest creation, a new flagship speaker by the name of Reference 1.2 DC, aiming to stir the imagination of audiophiles around the world without leaving a burning hole in their children's college savings account. The Canton Reference 1.2 DC is a massive floorstanding speaker screaming attitude and refinement, at the same time boasting unlimited class and being loaded with top-drawer components.

One of the first things we loved when seeing the Reference 1.2 DC was the scalloped edges of the upper cabinet; with an overall sleek and yet ultra-strong look, these sculptural accents make this speaker a very pleasant and noble presence in any interior. The rounded section of the cabinet is heavily braced on the inside, while the 50mm (in some critical areas) thick walls ensure minimal vibrations for a distortion-free listening.

These hand-made speakers come in four finishes: cherry veneer and white, black or silver gloss lacquer for a perfect match with your setting. The driver complement boasts a 3 1/2-way architecture with bass reflex system and a down-firing port with 360-degree dispersion. The thick and heavy baseplate of this rather tall (143 cm) speaker offers good stability while being able to decouple the cabinet from the floor via special shock absorbers.

The Canton Reference 1.2 DC comes with dual 12” aluminium woofers with Wave surrounds, twin 7” midrange drivers with the same aluminium cones and Wave surrounds, while the HF spectrum is delivered through a 1” aluminium/ceramic oxyd tweeter. This array is capable of driving sound ranging between 18Hz and 40kHz, with 89.5 dB sensitivity and 4-8 Ohms impedance. The maximal musical power for the Canton Reference 1.2 DC reaches a wall-wrecking 900W; these units can be bi-amped and bi-wired for easy integration with your existing audio gear.

Each loudspeaker weighs in a hefty 96 kg and will retail for an announced price of $14.575, debuting at the IFA.
