This does not seem to be the expected Jelly Bean update

AT&T and Sony launched the Xperia ion back in June 2012 with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system onboard.

However, the Japanese handset maker promised the smartphone would receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in the coming months.

True to its promise, Sony delivered the highly-anticipated Android 4.0 ICS update in late September 2012.

There’s more good news, as Xperia ion has been confirmed to receive a Jelly Bean upgrade as well, though we don’t have any exact release date for the moment.

All in all, it looks like the folks over at XperiaBlog have just spotted a new firmware version (6.1.C.1.111) that has just been certified for AT&T Xperia ion.

Although this doesn’t seem to be the long-awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, it’s nice to know that Sony is still supporting this carrier-bounded device. Stay tuned for more info on the subject.
