Sony Mobile already confirmed its Xperia PLAY smartphone won't be getting an official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade and will remain stuck on Gingerbread.

However, that doesn't mean that Xperia PLAY will not receive other software updates meant to bring new features, tweaks, improvements and bug fixes.

The folks over at XperiaBlog have just learned two new firmware versions for Sony Xperia PLAY have just been approved by PTCRB.

The first one, version number 4.0.2.A.0.79, seems to be another Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update, whereas the second one, version number 4.1.H.0.23 is a bit of a mystery.

This might be the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade that nave came for Xperia PLAY users, though we shouldn't get our hopes too high yet. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
