MINIX has recently released a new firmware update for its NEO X7 smart media hub. Version 008 is an Android 4.2.2 preloaded with the official XBMC MINIX Edition, AirPin, AirDroid, Skype, and CloudTV apps.

The web camera support and HDMI signal strength have been improved and the overlay screen capture bug has been fixed.

This release also removes the SU folder, low speed parameters, and USB mouse movement wake-up, but upgrades the Rockchip SDK and enables the OTA update protocol for future updates.

To install, save the downloadable firmware and extract the contents of the archive. Back up your data and run the “RKBatchTool.exe” from the “Flash Tool” folder. Browse for the firmware file in its dedicated folder and click “Restore.” Do not use the “Upgrade” button, in order to avoid flashing corruption.

The whole process will take about seven minutes, of which three are for flashing restore through a PC and the rest for the recovery. During this time it is very important not to unplug the unit.

Bear in mind that interrupting the installation by making use of the device’s buttons, disconnecting it from the computer, or in any other way might lead to malfunctions, or even render the media hub unusable.

That being said, download MINIX NEO X7 Firmware 0101 (Version 008), carefully apply it on your device, and constantly check our website in order to stay “updated one minute ago.”
