Among the products announced so far as scheduled for presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show, a fairly large amount deal with wireless capabilities, whether they are small dongles that enable wireless streaming on USB-capable media streamers or new industry standards for wireless HD video. Eye-Fi is coming out with its own WiFi enabled product, the Eye-Fi Pro X2 SDHC memory card.

The product's WiFi connectivity capabilities are but one of its main features. The storage unit will provide cameras or any other devices with 8GB of storage space, even while keeping tabs on the stored data in order for its Endless Memory mode to run properly. This mode keeps track of the uploaded files on the card and, when in this mode, older files are progressively deleted in order to make room for the storing of new data.

"With the introduction of our first wireless memory card, we made backing up and sharing photos effortless. Now, we're again redefining what is possible with a leap forward in technology, performance and user experience," Jef Holove, CEO of Eye-Fi, said. "The new X2 engine delivers further on the promise of a connected device – more convenience and virtually endless storage capacity, so there is no cap on the memories that can be captured."

The actual wireless transition of files between an Eye-Fi Pro X2-equipped camera and other WiFi-enabled personal computers is done via the 802.11n connectivity. The card itself is Class 6 certified and will perform file transfers very quickly and easily when communicating with PCs equipped with the Eye-Fi Center. The Eye-Fi Center is an application specifically designed to support and take advantage of the card's wireless functionality.

The 8GB Eye-Fi Pro X2 SDHC memory card is already available for pre-order on the company's website and has a price tag of $149.99. The Eye-Fi Center application is set to become available before the end of the month.
