NFL star Aaron Hernandez, a player for the New England Patriots, has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old former semi-pro football player who was found shot in the head near Hernandez’s home.

Video of Hernandez being taken out of his home in Massachusetts in handcuffs and led into a waiting police car is embedded below.

[ADMArK=1]TMZ reports that Hernandez is the main suspect in Lloyd’s death, with the victim’s family telling the media that the two shared a connection. They would not say though what that was.

The same media outlet notes that Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée but, as of now, this is still pending confirmation.

“Lloyd's body was discovered in a park in North Attleborough, Mass., last Monday. It appears he was shot through the back of the head,” TMZ reports.

Later reports indicated that Lloyd had, in fact, been shot multiple times, including in the groin, side, arm, chest, and back.

“Hernandez is also facing a lawsuit stemming from a separate incident, in which he allegedly shot a man in the face following a dispute at a Miami strip club back in February,” adds the same media outlet.

After he was taken downtown, Hernandez was charged with murder and is currently being held without bail, TMZ informs in a separate post.

Video of his arraignment is also embedded below, detailing how prosecutors tied Hernandez to the murder scene through a piece of chewed, cotton candy-flavored Bubbalicious gum.

The Patriots have dropped Hernandez from their roster, saying in a statement that this is “the right thing” to do now.

“A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation,” reads an NFL statement.
