Even though the Pine Trail series of Intel processors was designed for netbooks and nettops, they occasionally land inside other sort of products, like a certain embedded system developed by IEI Technology.

Embedded systems are very compact systems with mostly basic computing capabilities that are aimed at industrial, commercial and other sorts of such applications.

The new one that IEI Technology put together merges the Pine Trail 'desktop' platform with all the necessary storage, RAM and connectivity features.

The whole configuration is centered around the Atom D525 dual-core CPU, whose clock speed is of 1.8 GHz.

This chip can be backed up by up to 2 GB of RAM, via the only available DDR3 SODIMM slot.

The SATA interface is present, for storage purposes (obviously), while the chassis itself has room for one 2.5-inch HDD, supplemented by a Compact Flash type II slot.

There is also one slot devoted to a mini CPI Express Card, as well as two Realtek RTL8111E PCIe GbE ports and four USB 2.0 connectors.

Other specifications include optional 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, one VGA output, one audio jack and a chassis made of aluminum alloy with heavy duty metal.

All in all, the product measures 229 mm x 132 mm x 64 mm and weighs 2.1kg/ 3.9kg (Net/Gross).

No doubt the biggest advantage of the newcomer is its fanless construction, which guarantees that noise is kept at minimum and that the power draw of the system as a whole is lower than it would otherwise be.

That said, the company made more than one power input model available, namely 12 VDC and 9 VDC - 36 VDC. Finally, the B2 model has dual VGA.

The IEI Technology ECW-281B/B2-D525 is bundled with the One key Recovery software and can be seen in detail on its official product page, which is located here.
