A brand new trailer for the latest Tom Cruise action flick, “Edge of Tomorrow,” initially called “All You Need Is Kill,” has been released. It includes plenty of new footage and, because of it, offers a better understanding of the rather twisted plot.

Directed by Doug Liman, whose previous credits include “The Bourne Identity” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” the film stars Tom Cruise as a soldier on what turns out to be a suicide mission to stop aliens from invading earth.

He and every soldier with him are killed but he becomes stuck in a time loop, where he has to revisit the final hours of his life over and over again. With the help of another soldier, played by Emily Blunt, he will use this time to train himself to be able to actually put up a fight against the aliens.

The new trailer is heavier than the previous one on both action scenes and the convincingly tough Emily Blunt, which is a double win whichever way you look at it.

It also confirms what I’ve been saying for some time: even though Cruise’s popularity still suffers from his association with Scientology, he remains a solid action movie star.

“Edge of Tomorrow” will be out in June 2014. Do you plan on catching it in theaters?
