After taking a quick look at Samsung's portable 3D Blu-ray combo a little earlier, it's now about time to check out something a bit different, namely the BRXL-PC6U2 drive from Buffalo, that offers some pretty interesting disc reading and writing capabilities for just about any type of portable computing systems out there.

Without a doubt, the new portable drive from Buffalo is one of the most portable products of this type we've come across in quite a while, given the fact that, at just 145 x 153 x 19 mm and an overall weight of just 340 grams, carrying it around within an unusual laptop bag, for example.

Equally important is the fact that it supports the new BDXL standard, meaning that it can write data on 100GB/128GB Blu-ray discs (although, to be perfectly honest, we're quite sure that such media is still yet a bit inaccessible for the large majority of users).

Another interesting detail worth mentioning as far as this new external optical drive unit is concerned is the fact that it comes with not one, but two USB 2.0 cables, ensuring a much more stable writing process, as well as the necessary power.

And since we've reached the topic of writing, we'll also have to mention that the new drive from Buffalo Technology offers some pretty OK speeds, namely 6X for BD-R SL/DL (single-layer/dual-layer), 4X - BD-R 3-layer/4-layer, 2x - BD-RE, 8X - DVD-R/+R/+RW, 6X- DVD-R/+R DL and DVD-RW, etc.

Unfortunately, for the time being, Buffalo has only released the BRXL-PC6U2 drive, where it will start selling in late March for around 22,100 Japanese Yen (or the equivalent of 275 US dollars), which is not that high a sum to cough up for such an accessory, especially taking into account its impressive level of portability and extensive disc format support.
