14 DAY TRIAL // Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless and handset vendor Motorola are gearing up for the release of two new devices that would run under Google's Android operating system, the Droid X and Droid 2. Both mobile phones made it into the wild before, courtesy of various leaks, and a series of new details on them are now available courtesy of leaked commercial slides and scripts.
The one thing that seems to be certain here is that both Droid X and Droid 2 are meant to enhance the user experience more than the original DROID by Motorola was able to. The new devices are set to land on shelves with higher speed processors, support for more features than their predecessor, a new user interface, and others more. The Motorola Droid X, a handset formerly known as Motorola Shadow or Droid Xtreme, is reportedly packing a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, while including the handset vendor's new user interface solution. Additionally, the mobile phone is expected to sport an NFL App that would provide a great experience while watching the NFL on the go, along with a new EyeCon app through which one would be able to manage multimedia devices available around the house.
As for the Motorola Droid 2, its main feature is an application processor clocked in at 1 GHz. No further details are available on the chip, though rumor has it that it might be an OMAP processor. The slides that leaked over at Droid-Life confirm the presence of this chip with Droid 2, yet they do not offer more info on the matter.
Here's what one of the slides notes on Droid 2: “‘Does’ used to do a lot. Now it does even more. Now it does Email Exchange, so you can be hooked up to everything thing you need to do. Now it does 1.0GHz speed on a sleeker, more intuitive keyboard. It does and does and does. And the only thing it doesn’t do is ask for time off.”
