Drive enclosures are one of those things on the IT market that somehow make the news often even though they are the sort of items that never get bought by anyone outside very small groups.

That is because the hard disk drives and solid-state drives they are meant to hold usually stay inside PCs, and those who want to carry data around usually get a portable drive or two.

Still, there is the occasional leftover SATA drive waiting to do something, and drive enclosures can give them usefulness again.

Century Japan has just introduced the CSS25U3 line of external drive enclosures, composed of four models colored black, silver, red and green.

They have the 2.5-inch form factor, can hold 9.5 mm-thick drives and utilize square type-B receptacles, plus the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed standard (a single cable for power and connection).

Sales will start at the end of the month (March 2013), for 2,480 JPY US $25.7 / 19.90 Euro.
