HP, the leading manufacturer of portable computer systems, introduced yesterday at SIGGRAPH a new portable system meant to expand the company's current DreamColor technology portfolio. The EliteBook 8370w Mobile Workstation with DreamColor Display has been designed to offer to professionals an exceptional color accuracy.

The company also announced the introduction of two new portable computer systems, with the EliteBook 8530w Mobile Workstation and EliteBook 8530p Notebook PC, a customer calibration kit for the company's DreamColor LP2480zx Professional Display, and two additional high-performance displays, designed to meet the demands of a new generation of visual computing users.

"Mobility is becoming increasingly important to our most demanding, power-user customers," said Stephen Dewitt, senior vice president, Personal Systems Group - Americas, HP. "HP is delivering on creative professionals' most exacting computing needs by enabling power users to take their highly tuned graphics workstations with them wherever they go."

The EliteBook 8370w has been designed to provide support for the most sophisticated graphic-intensive applications with the help of the 17-inch DreamColor display combined with NVIDIA's Quadro FX graphics cards, which can provide up to 1GB of dedicated video memory. The system will also support Intel's latest quad-core processors and up to 8GB of memory. With regard to availability and pricing, the 17-inch notebook is expected to be released later this month at a starting U.S list price of $1,699.

The other two notebooks, EliteBook 8530w and EliteBook 8530p, provide impressive graphics features in a small, mobile form factor. The 15.4-inch notebooks have been designed to meet the requirements of users working in areas such as animation, video production, broadcasting, photography, design and engineering. Both systems are powered by an Intel Core 2 processor and come with 8GB of memory, while the HP EliteBook 8530w supports Intel quad-core processors. Additionally, the company's EliteBook series boasts a brushed anodized aluminum exterior combined with a magnesium alloy chassis that is said to guarantee maximum protection for the notebooks. Both products are said to become available in September with a starting price tag of $1,499.

The HP DreamColor LP2480zx display is touted as being the first affordable color-critical display, being the fruit of a collaboration between HP and DreamWorks Animation SKG. It boasts a 24-inch diagonal DreamColor LCD that is capable of providing more than 1 billion colors in a 30-bit, LED-backlit widescreen display. The company's new DreamColor Advanced Profiling Solution is now shipping as an option for LP2480zx users, allowing them to custom calibrate color settings beyond the built-in factory settings. The software is currently available for Windows users at a price tag of $349.

The 22-inch widescreen LP 2275w and the 24-inch widescreen LP2475w LCD display have been designed for workstation users, offering them a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and extra-bright screens. They are expected to be made available in North America in September for an estimated price tag of $459 to $649, respectively.
