Dota 2 has just received a brand new update from developer Valve, bringing forth a series of improvements to the server network of the large online game, while adding new regions for South America, in the form of Chile and Peru. Valve also confirms that the Singapore region will be taken offline next week for maintenance and improvements.

Dota 2 is currently one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games in the world, rivaling only Riot's League of Legends in the segment.

Valve has just released a pretty major update for the game that brought major changes to the map as well as to the many different heroes in the title.

A fresh update is available

Now, a new patch has just been released by Valve onto the Steam service, making a series of improvements to the whole server network. In recent weeks, professional Dota 2 matches have been affected by Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks and it seems that Valve is finally changing the online infrastructure for added security and performance.

The patch also removes the Captain's Draft mode from the ranked matchmaking system, as apparently there were too few players in this mode, which in turn caused excessive wait times, imbalanced matches, and even had the potential for abuse in terms of the matchmaking rank of those who participated.

The update also signals new changes to matchmaking regions

The Dota 2 patch also brings forth a series of additions and tweaks to the matchmaking regions in the game. South American fans will have two new regions, in the form of Chile and Peru, so that they won't have to endure high latency figures when playing on existing servers in that region or in the US East one.

What's more, the Singapore matchmaking region is going to be taken offline for some tweaks and upgrades, according to Valve, as the company wants better performance for players in that zone.

"The Singapore matchmaking region will be undergoing some changes next week. There will be a maintenance period from the 13th until the 16th Singapore time. On the 14th the region will be entirely unavailable, and during the other times it will be operating under limited capacity (fewer servers available for usage)," the studio explains on its website.

"We will be rebuilding the clusters on new server hardware and retiring the old server hardware. On the network side, we will be improving the router architecture, as it is currently too susceptible to packet loss under high load."

The new Dota 2 patch is already available for download via Steam and weighs in at around 113MB.
