It really seems that just about everyone's launching an online content delivery service these days, the latest to do so being none other than DivX (now a division of Sonic Solutions, makers of Roxio), who's just announced the launch of the DivX TV entertainment service that enables retailers and consumer electronics manufacturers to bring a broad range of web-based content to home and mobile electronics. The DivX TV offers a rapidly growing library of more than 10,000 high-quality videos and is capable of powering the distribution of any video content, including premium services.

DivX TV is currently available on LG Electronics' BD550, BD570 and BD590 Blu-ray Disc players and LHB335, LHB535 and LHB975 home theater systems and, as part of this launch, DivX has also updated its content line up, spanning multiple genres such as automotive, business, how-to, humor, music and more, these new shows joining a large and diverse roster of existing online content such as Associated Press, CNET, and Revision3.

In addition to the breadth of quality Internet programming available, DivX TV is also customizable, given the fact that users can bookmark their favorite shows and create personalized channels across all sources with saved searches, making it easy for consumers to find content to match their particular area of interest.

"DivX TV is a compelling solution for manufacturers like LG seeking to differentiate their product lines with a best-in-class Internet video experience," said Matt Milne, Executive Vice President and General Manager, DivX.

"Consumers have responded very positively to the launch of DivX TV and the entertainment control and selection the service provides them. We look forward to working with our partners and bringing more quality web programming such as CNET and Funny or Die to the living room," continued Mr. Milne.

Peter Reiner, Senior Vice President, Marketing, LG Electronics USA, is pretty much on the same page as his counterpart from DivX, commenting that "Sonic's DivX TV service brings a rich variety of compelling content to LG Blu-ray customers, enhancing their connected home entertainment experience."

We're pretty sure that this is only the beginning for DivX TV, and it remains to be seen what consumer electronics brand will adopt it next.
