Ninja Theory has confirmed that the upcoming DmC: Devil May Cry, which looks like a wholesale reboot of the series, will be powered by the Epic Games made Unreal Engine 3 and not by the widely used MT Framework that Capcom has used on most of its current generation would be blockbusters.

The new Devil May Cry has been unveiled at the Tokyo Games Show via a combat heavy trailer and suggest that the new game will take fans of the series back to an earlier time in the life of Dante, perhaps detailing the crucial events that turned his hair completely white (it is completely dark in the trailer shown).

A lot of fans quickly criticized the new effort from Ninja Theory, saying that the project makes Dante seem a bit too emo and under equipped to handle the supernatural threats that the game universe can throw at him.

Capcom has said that Ninja Theory was chosen to handle the new Devil May Cry because of the way they are able to introduce narrative in their action titles.

MT Framwork has so far been used in titles like the first Dead Rising, Lost Planet for both the Xbox 360 and the PC, Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5, with the technology improving with each new outing.

The engine seemed powerful and versatile enough to deliver both good looking, textured spaces and fluid action sequences.

Lost Planet 2 showcased what the 2.0 version of the MT Framework can do and the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will also use it.

Capcom has published just one video game so far powered by Unreal Engine 3, the Airtight Games made Dark Void.

The move to the Epic Games made engine might be down to the experiences that Ninja Theory has with it, as the development team used it to created Enslaved, the Namco Bandai published title they have worked on before Devil May Cry.
