Combat will be fluid while the world will be expansive

Developer at Capcom have said that one of their aims with the new, rebooted Devil May Cry video game is to deliver a better action title than Bayonetta, the surprise hit that developer Platinum Games and publisher SEGA launched in late 2009 in Japan.

Alex Jones, who is a producer at Capcom United States working on the game, has told Inside Xbox that, “You always want to go out there and beat your competitor to some degree. There are places where we’re squarely competing with Bayonetta, and that’s at the: how does the game feel when it’s in your hand?”

Fluidity of movements, both inside and outside combat, will be one of the main aims for the development team.

But the developer says that they are also looking at other aspects, with Jones adding, “The other areas, tone, storytelling, we’re offering a different experience from Bayonetta and we feel really good about that experience. Some areas we’re competing with them. Some areas we’re offering something different.”

The leader of Ninja Theory, who is doing the actual development work on Devil May Cry, believes that the similarities when it comes to the action mechanics of the video game should not obscure the fact that the reboot is also adding a lot of mechanics, including how main character Dante will be able to twist and shape the world around him.

When Ninja Theory showed off their first ideas for Devil May Cry a lot of fans complained that they were betraying the spirit of the franchise.

The developers have not detailed all the features of the new game but have suggested that it will be easier for new players to just pick up and play it while long term fans will be able to get depth out of the combat system.

DmC: Devil May Cry should be launched on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft at some point during 2012.
