Konami has sent out a batch of new information regarding its upcoming March 17 release, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 for the Nintendo Wii. Among the major features presented are the three separate control systems that can be used to guide the players on the pitch.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 pioneered a “point and drag” control system designed to allow players to make both defending and shooting more effective. This system has been developed further, with the Nunchuck controller being used to take charge of the players who had the ball in possession or the one directly tackling them.

But there are two more control options. A player can opt for a Classic Controller, which is used in pretty much the same way as the controllers on the other home gaming consoles, or they can use the Wiimote held sideways in order to move the players around. The fact that there are three methods of controlling the game means that players can choose their favorite both in single player and in the cooperative multiplayer games.

Another new feature is Champions Road mode, which is focused on both the football matches themselves and on other added individual challenges. For each match or challenge they complete, players get a bonus in cash and they can use the sums to improve the facilities at their club. You can get private jets and each new addition to the club can attract better players and improve the form of existing ones.

The Nintendo Wii version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is also set to get the popular Master League mode, which focuses on the progression of one low league club. Konami is trying to push the game on the Nintendo home console after it has achieved respectable sales on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. PES 2009 can also be played on the PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation 2.
