Codemasters has recently unveiled DiRT 3 and has also put out a trailer during the ESPN's X-Games 16 even in Los Angeles. New details have now been published detailing the new features of this new installment in the franchise. The Matt Horsman, the head of game design for DiRT 3, has promised that it was going to be the biggest rally title ever created.

The latest issue of the Edge magazine, via Eurogamer, gave some insights regarding what was in store for DiRT fans. Apparently the title will contain snow and ice, dynamic weather, split-screen support, an open world environment, real life sponsors and stars of the World Rally Cup. Codemasters also revealed that DiRT 3, like most of today's games, will also have some social networking features, like party modes or the possibility to upload YouTube videos of the best moments of a race.

The new career mode will allow players to really understand what team racing is all about and will have them start as privateers, racers who are not officially supported by a car manufacturer, participating in competitions with vehicles from the 90s. Codemasters has done away with the menus from DiRT 2, opting for a more stylised look, this time around, according to the magazine.

New cars will join the ever expanding roster of the franchise, with supper buggies and RAID trucks, as well as old models like the Morris Cooper to be included in DiRT 3. Over 100 routes will be available for racing fans, through various locations raging from Norway, Aspen and Monter Carlo to the treacherous plains of South Africa. The developer is promising that the game will be released in 2011 for the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the PC. This is not the only racing game Codemasters is working on, as a sequel to the critically acclaimed GRID has also been announced.
