The Nintendo Wii version of PES 2008 will be released during late March by Konami, who decided do give some extra info regarding the changes made for this Wii version. And for those who believed that such a realistic game can't be played with a Wiimote... well, Konami hopes to prove them wrong!

Pro Evolution Soccer brings a more team oriented control system, taking full advantage of both the Wiimote and the Nunchuck - you will be able to control both the player who has the ball, as well as those around him. I don't know what you think, but for me this sounds pretty complicated. We'll see...

All the skill and ball control moves will be made using a point and drag system of the Wii Remote and subtle hand movements. The Remote can also be used to steer the run of the receiving player, giving extra control as they thread through masses of defenders or run into open space. This new control system gives the players a full control over their teams, allowing man marking of specific threats, while shakes of the Nunchuck will result in sliding tackles. The strategic elements are also easily accessed, with the directional controls of the Wii Remote used to activate tactical plays and spring counter attacks or send players tracking back.

"It was vital that the Wii version of PES 2008 made full use of the hardware's innovative control system, and we are extremely pleased with what the team has come up with," commented Jon Murphy, Pro Evolution Soccer Team Leader. "It feels as if you have total control over the entire team and the use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to both implement moves and send players into space or off to make runs is remarkably intuitive. It adds a new layer of realism, and makes this Wii version an essential PES experience."

The Wii version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 features six game modes, the exclusive "Champions Road" being by far the most promising one. This game mode, actually a huge tournament, offers the players the chance to compete in league competitions all over the world and to come top in each of them, while building a team by receiving players from the recently defeated teams. Experience points are also added to all the sportsmen who played in a match so you'll be able to turn your players into real super stars.
