Dell might have already made the news with the Streak tablet, but it looks like the company wants to compete with itself, so to speak, since there seems to be a different slate on the way as well.
The tablet market really does seem to be growing in profile by leaps and bounds, though some products did end up
delayed.
Still, for the most part, tablets have been doing quite well for a new segment, so it is no wonder that Dell has its own strategy.
Nonetheless, until recently, the
Streak series was the only one to really be known as far as Dell is concerned.
Turns out that the company has also been working on a different model, one bearing the name of Peju and powered by not an ARM chip or whatever else, but an Intel Core i5 central processing unit.
Of course,
some people aren't totally certain Dell will really stick to this processor platform, but the specs so far known list that as the central chip.
The CPU is backed up by 4 GB of RAM (random access memory), while an SSD (solid state drives) of 64 GB provides the necessary storage space.
This is quite a jump from the 16 GB or 32 GB of most media tablets so far revealed, much in the same way as the 10.1-inch display is said to have a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.
The resolution alone will raise eyebrows if Dell really does implement it, but it is implied that the panel also has the benefit of Gorilla Glass.
Additionally, the Peju is said to possess WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G, two webcams (1.3 mp and 5 mp on the front and back, respectively) and various ports (USB, HDMI, mini VGA, audio etc).
Finally, Dell threw in a microSD card slot, the option to choose a 120 GB SSD instead of the 64 GB one and a battery that can keep everything running for up to 8 hours.
It isn't clear when this year (2011) the release will be, but the product will be possible to buy along with a docking station that has extra I/O.
