Chromebooks first gained attention due to their success in the educational market and this sector continues to pump most of the orders for products from this category.

Noticing the appeal of inexpensive laptops running Chrome OS more and more brand vendors have boarded this particular bandwagon.

At the moment Acer, Samsung and HP collectively account for 70% of the total Chromebook market and 80% of the educational market.

But other players in the tech industry are also looking to push more aggressively in the ecosystem, say sources familiar with the matter reported by DigiTimes.

Expect new Chromebooks from Dell, ASUS and Lenovo soon

The insiders believe that companies such as ASUS, Lenovo and Dell will soon launch new Chromebook products in order to extend their grasp of the market.

For the time being ASUS has two Chromebook models available (the C200 and C300) and so does Dell (one with Intel Celeron 2955U processor and one with Intel Core i3). As for Lenovo, it also has a bunch of models available, one of which is equipped with dual-mode (switch between laptop and stand mode).

Actually, at some point we told you the Dell Chromebook 11 was selling so well that the company had to stop selling it because it couldn’t deal with the demand. The company asked interested parties to contact their local representatives in order to get their hands on that particular model.

Seeing its Chromebooks are in high-demand, Dell is sure to eventually jump back with some new models.

Sources familiar with the matter say Dell has a large grasp of the PC market in the US, so it will most likely focus its efforts on acquiring Chromebook orders in the region.

As for ASUS and Lenovo, they are both working towards new offerings, but the latter is putting equal emphasis on inexpensive Windows 8 notebook models.

Chromebooks prices will continue to decrease

The good news is that with more and more brand vendors joining the Chromebook race, their prices are expected to drop even more.

The sources also mentioned that Google plans to make its laptops available in Taiwan starting this November, after launching them in territories like Australia and New Zealand.

To give you an ensemble view over the Chromebook market, Chrome OS notebooks achieved a sequential shipment growth of over 60% in Q2 of 2014.

And if you’re wondering who’s benefiting the most from Chromebooks, it’s Acer, which holds up to 37% of the total market.

But with tough competition coming from Dell, Lenovo and ASUS this might change soon.
