With better search, speed and design

Del.icio.us users now have the possibility to access the new version of the site, as the developer team promised it would happen in the near future. "The new Delicious is just like the old del.icio.us, only faster, easier to learn, and hopefully more delightful to use and to look at." it is said about the new website, quite in an optimistic manner.

The main improvements that it brings are related to the loading speed, the search relevancy, and, once again, to the design, which was conceived in such a way as to continue to be familiar to current users and more appealing for new ones. The team says that, along with these modifications, changing the domain was also necessary, because it was frequently generating confusion. Hence, del.icio.us has become delicious.com. The old domain and URLs are still available and will redirect users who did not get used to the changes yet to the new website.

Users were already familiar with the problems that the website was having when most of the 5 million people who make up its audience were online. The team from delicious.com says it made all efforts to increase speed, and thus to meet the needs of those users most pressed for time. The search tool is not only faster, but it also allows users to search through basically everything on the network: their bookmarks, other people's bookmarks, tags, the network, etc.

The new design turned out to be the developers' favorite with the new delicious.com. Bookmarks are now alphabetically ordered and can be even more easily found by using a combination of tags. The layout of bookmarks was modified as well, so it's now easier to find just one out of many. The number of people who have saved something in their bookmarks is also displayed, so users can get a better picture of what is most popular on their network.

Although the official announcement of the new website was received with great enthusiasm, some of the users complained either that the default fonts were too small or that some of their bookmarks had been lost in the process. Although this is not a Beta version of the website, the developers assured users that improvements were still being worked on, and that all their complaints were being looked in.
