Concept phones are always something to stir our imagination, that's for sure. We already spotted various such devices, designed with different shapes, or meant to offer additional functionality, beside the phone features that any of them would include, and today we can take a look at another one, a floating device.

In all fairness, it is not a phone meant to float at all times, but only when charging, so as to create a unique aesthetic effect. The concept comes from In-oh Yoo and Sun-woong Oh.

What makes the phone float is a specially designed charging cradle, which includes magnets through which a space is created, where the handset floats while charging. And it also spins.

“This phone works in tangent with its charging cradle, its cradle, the phone and magnets creating a space where the phone spins while charging, creating a unique aesthetic experience,” the guys over at Yanko Design note.

The handset sports a rather familiar candybar design that most Android devices include, as well as the iPhone. The device sports hollow parts at the top and bottom, through which it is charged wirelessly.

As soon as one places the mobile phone in the cradle, the magnets are activated, and the charging begins. At the same time, the device starts to float.

The user should be able to select the specific screen that would be displayed while the handset charges, or to select more than just one. To add to the atmosphere, a dim light is emitted from the back of the charge unit.

Things are becoming even more interesting when a call comes in, or when a text message is received, as the magnets would cause the phone to rotate. Not to mention that the text and icon activation on the screen would appear 3D courtesy of an “after-image effect.”

Undoubtedly, the idea seems pretty interesting, though it might take a while before such a device is actually built and put on sale. In the meantime, have a look at the shots available with it.
