A high ranking executive working for publisher Electronic Arts has talked about the existence of a new Command & Conquer video game, which is under development at the Visceral division of the company and which might be officially revealed in the near future.
Nick Earl, who is the general manager of the Visceral Games, has told Gamasutra as part of a
bigger interview that a new
Command & Conquer titles was part of the division's strategy to create games that contribute to “the effort and energy” to build “EA share in the action category... to achieve our mission of becoming number one inside of the action space.”
Earl has not offered any clear details on the new Command & Conquer titles but has said that it is “pretty far out”.
The announcement of a new Command & Conquer title comes just as Electronic Arts expands the Visceral Games label to promote future action and strategy titles.
The latest real time strategy title in the series, Tiberian Twilight, has been badly received by both the fans on the franchise and by reviewers, who have criticized the tech tree, which can be only unlocked by spending hours playing the game and limits access to units for less dedicated players.
Given the expertise that Visceral brings to the table the new Command & Conquer video game is probably a third person or first person shooter based around one of the many special operatives of the universe, in the manner of the Renegade title which arrived in 2002.
Visceral's main franchise at the moment is
Dead Space, which will get a new game in the coming months, and it will be interesting to see what the company can do with such a well known universe as Command & Conquer, especially when taking into account the existence of the Scrin alien race and the transformation that Kane has suffered.
