The extension is free of charge but comes with a few shortcomings

Here’s something that you absolutely need to know in terms of RAW images. Sure, they are worth making a fuss about, but until now viewing them required a certain kind of software capable of reading the format, most of which weren't widely available to everyone.

But that’s a thing of the past now, because there’s a wonderful Google Chrome extension made available by FilePreviews.io that is looking to change all that, says ThePhoblographer.

Basically, the new extension allows you to view RAW images in your browser. It achieves this by virtue of a clever trick. Usually, when you click on a RAW file, Chrome will download it to your machine.

But now you can right click the file and then select “Preview from link” the extension opens up a new tab that shows the RAW image, without exiting the browser.

What’s more, the extension is available free of charge, but don’t expect it to be perfect just yet. First off, there’s a file limitation on the RAW files set to 10MB, which is pretty much what half a standard RAW file is nowadays.

On top of that, the extension doesn't seem to work in Dropbox, which would have been extremely in-handy. Nevertheless, I’m pretty sure we’re going to be hearing more of the FilePreview.io extension, as more improvements will be added to the table.
