Less than a week after it graduated version 5 of Chrome to the Beta channel, Google provided the first update for early adopters. “Google Chrome 5.0.375.38 has been released to the Beta channel for Linux, Mac and Windows,” Anthony Laforge, from the Google Chrome Team, revealed. On May 4th, 2010, the Mountain View-based search giant provided Chrome 5.0.375.29, the first Beta development milestone of Chrome 5.0, also for all supported platforms.

According to Laforge, the latest Beta build of Chrome 5.0 is focused on delivering a range of fixes to both stability and reliability problems. Essentially, testers running the previous Beta release will be able to notice that the open source browser will crash less. In addition to resolving crashes, Chrome 5.0.375.38 also brings to the table a localization refresh for the browser’s strings.

Last week, Google offered the first Beta development milestone of Chrome 5.0, bringing to the table an array of new features. On May 4th, Laforge enumerated some of them, including “HTML5 Features: Geolocation, App Cache, web sockets, file drag-and-drop; integrated Flash Player Plugin; V8 performance improvements; preferences synchronization; and NaCl behind a flag.”

Of course, the new speed boost that Chrome got with the introduction of version 5.0 Beta was by far the focus of Google’s release. Early adopters that are looking to go one step further can also download the latest Dev channel release of Chrome. Chrome 5.0.396.0 Dev was offered just a couple of days after the first Beta for v5.0, and is just a tad more advanced compared with the Beta release. Testers already familiar with the fast development pace of the Mountain View search giant know that the Dev channel is bound to be pushed beyond version 5.0 in the immediate future, as Google spends little time lingering on a specific release.
