Canon will give mirrorless another shot in 2015

Canon was relatively late to the mirrorless camera party when it launched the EOS M system back in July 2012.

Not to mention that the camera was more of a point-and-shoot with interchangeable lenses than a device that would actually get people super excited.

But Canon has already made it pretty clear that it thinks mirrorless is not really the path to take and that DSLRs are superior and preferred by many.

New Canon mirrorless will be upon us soon

Well, it appears Canon will continue to push the efforts started with the EOS M lineup, as the rumor mill is saying the EOS M3 device will be announced until this year ends.

On top of that, we’re given a few details about the specifications the shooter will arrive with. Canon’s new mirrorless will supposedly arrive with a 50-megapixel sensor and we can expect to see it arrive on the market starting 2015.

But nothing is sure at this point and you have to remember we’re still in the realm of speculation when the upcoming M3 is concerned. As it often happens, we might get conflicting information about an upcoming product such as this.

Another source claims the mirrorless will actually come equipped with an APS-C sensor, just like the other models pertaining to the family.

What the two sources agree on is that we’re going to be hearing of the new product in 2014, after which Canon will bring it to the market in 2015.

Canon might have plans to refresh its view on mirrorless

The first theory seems to be more appealing, as it would be interesting to see Canon put out a new mirrorless camera under a different name and coming with a 50MP full frame sensor.

After all, Canon’s own Managing Director and Chief Executive of Image Communication Products Operation has provided a clue that leads us to believe this is indeed the case. During an interview at Photokina 2014, he mentioned that the company could be working on a new type of camera, different than the current EF, EF-S and EF-M mounts.

At this point, a new Canon mirrorless with a full frame sensor seems to fit very well into the whole story, but we should take all this info with a big grain of salt until things become official.

In related news, Canon is prepping a lot of new products that will make it on the market in 2015. For example, the company will probably unveil the Cinema EOS C300 Mark II at NAB 2014. The shooter is expected to arrive with 4K shooting capabilities, so stay tuned for a lot of goodies coming from Canon.
