Blizzard, the creator of the most successful subscription based MMO in the world of gaming, believes that any new massively multiplayer title that it creates can co exist with World of Warcraft and even deliver experiences that serve the same player base in different ways.

In the GameTrailers interview Mike Morhaime, who is the president and one of the co founders of Blizzard, has said, “We are working on a second MMO. We’re thinking of it as sort of a next-generation MMO. It’s not a sequel to World of Warcraft, we want to do something a bit different.”

He added, “We’re not trying to replace World of Warcraft, we think that World of Warcraft can continue co-existing with our new MMO and some people might prefer the new one, some people might still prefer to play World of Warcraft.”

Morhaime believes that the company has learned a lot of valuable lessons while creating the original World of Warcraft, their best selling MMO, and its three expansions to date, all of it indicating that they understand the titles that are now on the market and can put together an experience that is completely different.

Of course the Blizzard leader did not elaborate on exactly what new directions his company is exploring and how they plan to either attract a whole new crowd of players or to persuade those who play World of Warcraft to take on another long term experience.

At the BlizzCon official event other Blizzard executives said that any announcement linked to the existence of a new MMO would only be made officially at some point in 2012.

Until then Blizzard has confirmed that World of Warcraft will be getting another expansion after Cataclysm is released, with the initial stages of development already ongoing.

The company is also working on Diablo III, which will soon get a beta stage, and Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, the second installment in the strategy series second act.
